A Shiva-Parvati murti of substantial proportions. Aesthetics that borrow heavily from the South Indian bronzes of the Pandya and the Chola eras. Sculpted from brass and poised upon a continuous plinth, such an ensemble would be a valuable addition to a pious Indian home.

Bitone composition: cobalt blue for the natural complexion of the deities and the middle tier of the plinth, gold for every other detail such as crown and attire and adornment of the deities and the lotus petals on the top and bottom tiers of the plinth.

From the mutually passionate stance of Shiva-Parvati to the handsome features of their twin faces and their fine-boned limbs as well as the rest of their physique, the resemblance to the traditional bronzes is undeniable and must have been difficult to achieve in this medium.

A Divine Union Embodied in Brass

This magnificent brass statue captures the divine essence of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, a celestial couple revered throughout Hinduism. Standing tall and exuding an aura of serene power, this piece is a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and deep spiritual symbolism. The striking blue patina, reminiscent of Shiva's divine throat that consumed poison, contrasts beautifully with the lustrous gold accents, highlighting the intricate details of their attire and adornments. The aged finish imbues the sculpture with a sense of timelessness, as if it has witnessed eons of cosmic dance and divine play.

The Lord of Transformation and His Consort

Lord Shiva, the destroyer and transformer, is depicted in his majestic form, embodying both asceticism and the cosmic dance of creation and destruction. His serene expression, adorned with a towering, elaborately crafted mukuta (crown), signifies his supreme authority and inner peace. His multiple arms, a common representation of his boundless power and ability to perform myriad tasks simultaneously, hold various attributes, each with its own profound meaning. Beside him stands Goddess Parvati, the divine mother, the embodiment of strength, beauty, and devotion. Her gentle posture and the delicate flower she holds in her hand symbolize her nurturing nature and her connection to the earthly realm. Their harmonious presence together signifies the union of masculine and feminine energies, the balance of creation and preservation, and the profound bond that underpins the universe.

Symbolism and Auspiciousness

The worship of Shiva and Parvati together, often referred to as Uma-Maheshvara, represents the ideal of marital bliss and spiritual partnership. Their union is a source of inspiration for countless devotees, symbolizing the coming together of opposing forces to create a harmonious whole. In Hindu mythology, Parvati is the daughter of Himavan, the king of the mountains, and Menavati. Her intense devotion and penance, undertaken to win Shiva's heart, are legendary. Their marriage is celebrated as a union of the divine and the earthly, bringing prosperity, stability, and spiritual growth. This statue, with its imposing stature and captivating beauty, serves as a powerful focal point for meditation and prayer, inviting blessings of good fortune, marital harmony, and spiritual enlightenment into any space. The intricate detailing on their garments, jewelry, and the lotus base speaks volumes about the skill of the artisans who brought this divine vision to life.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
