The Embodiment of Dharma

This magnificent sculpture captures the serene essence of the Buddha, frozen in a moment of profound wisdom and teaching. Crafted with meticulous detail from brass, it embodies the principles of Dharma, the cosmic law and order that governs existence, as it was revealed by the Buddha himself. The Buddha is depicted seated in a meditative pose upon a lotus base, a symbol of purity and enlightenment rising from the muddy waters of samsara (the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth). His right hand is raised in the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture of reassurance and protection, dispelling fear and bestowing blessings upon all sentient beings. In his left hand, he holds a bowl, often interpreted as a vessel for alms or the nectar of immortality, a symbol of detachment from worldly possessions and the pursuit of spiritual nourishment. The face of the Buddha exudes tranquility and compassion. The elongated earlobes, a mark of his renounced princely life adorned with heavy jewelry, serve as a reminder of his past and the sacrifices he made in his quest for enlightenment. The urna, a circular mark on his forehead, represents the third eye of wisdom, capable of perceiving reality beyond the limitations of ordinary vision. The ushnisha, the cranial protuberance on the top of his head, signifies his heightened spiritual awareness and the culmination of his enlightenment. The intricate details of the robe, the folds and drape carefully rendered, add to the overall sense of realism and artistry.

A Legacy of Enlightenment

The Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was born into a royal family in ancient India around the 6th century BCE. Despite his privileged upbringing, he was deeply troubled by the suffering he witnessed in the world. Driven by compassion, he renounced his worldly life and embarked on a spiritual journey to find a way to overcome suffering and attain lasting peace. After years of rigorous practice and meditation, he achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree and became the Buddha, the "awakened one." Following his enlightenment, the Buddha spent the remainder of his life traveling throughout India, teaching the Dharma to all who would listen. He taught the Four Noble Truths: the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path to the end of suffering. He also taught the Eightfold Path, a set of ethical guidelines and practices that lead to liberation from suffering. His teachings have had a profound impact on the world and continue to inspire millions of people today. This statue is not merely an object; it's a representation of a philosophy, a path, and a beacon of hope for a world seeking peace and understanding. It serves as a constant reminder of the potential for enlightenment that resides within each of us.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
