On a gigantic lotus bloom, sits the grave Lord Brahma. Limbs gathered in lalitasana. Of the four hands (He is chaturbhujadhari), the anterior hands are in the aashirvada va abhaya mudra, while in the posterior hands are a manuscript and a rosary. His three faces each bear a solemn composure.
Lord Brahma is the presiding deity over srshti or creative projection. With His more than one head, He keeps watch over each of the cardinal directions. The murti of Brahma that you see on this page is a wood-carved composition. It is a one-of-a-kind sculpture that borrows heavily from the temple iconography predominant in ancient South India.
The most telling feature of the same is the ornate Kirtimukham, located at the zenith of the archway above Brahma’s three heads. The archway itself originates as pillars on either side of His lotus-shaped throne and is made of lotus petals layered one against the other.
