36" Wooden Standing Goddess Saraswati on Pedestal

$1175
Includes any tariffs and taxes

Devi Sarasvati, Hinduism’s presiding deity over learning and the fine arts. Wife of Brahma, indispensable to Him in His function as cosmic creator. A wood-carved chaturbhujadharini Sarasvati is just the sculpture to add to your home if you are a Brahma and/or Sarasvati devotee.

Against a tall, rectangular frame of solid wood She stands, Her wisp-like beauty having been carved from the same medium. Amongst straight-cut aureole and lotus-shaped plinth and the very form of the divinity, it makes for a strong monotone. The same is punctuated by the wealth of gradient implicit within a natural, organic medium such as wood.

Elongated lotus petals below the plinth upon which Sarasvati stands. A world of sashes dangling about Her dhoti. A highly characteristic Devi shringar. Strikingly handsome countenance. All these are hallmarks of traditional South Indian craftsmanship, of which this work is a fine example.

Embodiment of Knowledge and Harmony

This exquisite wooden sculpture captures the divine essence of Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu deity of knowledge, music, arts, wisdom, and learning. Standing gracefully upon an ornate pedestal, the deity is depicted in her iconic posture, holding the veena, a stringed musical instrument, and a manuscript. The detailed carving showcases the intricate folds of her attire, the delicate fingers poised over the strings, and the serene expression on her face, conveying a sense of profound peace and creative energy. The wood, with its natural grain and warm tones, lends an earthy and timeless quality to the artwork, making it a captivating centerpiece for any space.

Mythological Significance and Cultural Resonance

In Hindu mythology, Saraswati is revered as the mother of the Vedas, the primordial sound of creation. She is often depicted with four arms, representing the four aspects of human personality in learning: mind (manas), intellect (buddhi), consciousness (chitta), and ego (ahamkara). Her association with the swan, a symbol of purity and discrimination, further emphasizes her role as a guide to discerning truth. The veena, held in her hands, symbolizes the melody of life, the harmony of the universe, and the art of communication. The manuscript represents the wealth of knowledge and the pursuit of wisdom. This sculpture, therefore, is not merely an artistic representation but a conduit to invoke these divine attributes into one's life, fostering creativity, clarity, and intellectual growth.

Artistry and Craftsmanship

Crafted from high-quality wood, this standing Saraswati is a testament to the enduring tradition of South Indian wood carving. The artisan's skill is evident in every sculpted detail, from the elaborate headdress and traditional jewelry to the rhythmic flow of drapery. The pedestal, adorned with intricate patterns, elevates the deity, symbolizing her divine status and the reverence she commands. The warm, natural finish of the wood enhances the beauty of the carving, giving it a rich and authentic feel. This piece is a perfect embodiment of devotion and artistic mastery, designed to inspire and uplift those who behold it.

A Sacred Presence for Your Home

Bringing this representation of Goddess Saraswati into your home or sacred space is an invitation to cultivate a deeper appreciation for knowledge, arts, and spiritual wisdom. Its imposing height of 36 inches makes it a commanding presence, while its refined artistry ensures it complements a variety of decor styles, from traditional to contemporary. Whether placed in a living room, study, or meditation corner, this wooden deity serves as a constant reminder of the pursuit of enlightenment and the beauty of creative expression. It is an ideal gift for students, artists, musicians, scholars, or anyone seeking to enhance their intellectual and spiritual journey.
