Shiva, Parvati's husband, returned home and, unaware of Ganesha's parentage, was prevented from entering. In a fit of rage, Shiva severed Ganesha's head. Parvati was inconsolable, and Shiva, realizing his mistake, promised to replace Ganesha's head with the first head he found facing north. The first head he found was that of an elephant. This story highlights themes of loyalty, devotion, and the triumph of wisdom over ignorance, principles that are central to Ganesha's enduring appeal.
