Krishna with his twin wives, Rukmini and Satyabhama for his devotees is a manifestation of Sri Vishnu with Sridevi and Bhudevi and is revered with an equal sense of devotion. In these bronze statues, a distinct Baalya (childhood) swaroopa or form of Krishna accompanies the goddesses, symbolizing the charming, innocent, and ever-young virtues of the god. The central icon of Sri Krishna is in a dancing pose, adorned beautifully and holding Makhan or butterball in his hand as the other is extended gracefully to his side. Beneath his foot is a lotus, the symbol of the origin of the Universe, on which Krishna gently rests his right foot.

To his left is Rukmini, the chief wife of Krishna holding a lotus flower, identified by the Kuchabandha or breastband, which is an ornament worn by the eldest wife in iconography. Satyabhama stands on the right, holding a blue waterlily, both the goddesses exuding a divine aura. The three icons are placed on beautifully delineated lotus pedestals and are made supremely lovely with a glistening polish.

The Divine Dance of Lord Krishna with His Consorts

Immerse yourself in the divine presence of Bhagawan Krishna, accompanied by his beloved consorts, Rukmini and Satyabhama, captured in this exquisite Panchaloha bronze sculpture. Crafted using the traditional Madhuchista Vidhana (lost-wax) technique in the renowned artisan village of Swamimalai, this piece embodies centuries of artistic heritage and spiritual devotion. The vibrant energy of Lord Krishna, depicted in a playful dance, radiates from the sculpture, while the serene grace of Rukmini and the spirited charm of Satyabhama surround him, creating a tableau of divine love and cosmic harmony. ––––––––––

A Masterpiece of Panchaloha Craftsmanship

The term "Panchaloha" signifies a sacred alloy of five metals – gold, silver, copper, tin, and iron. This ancient combination is believed to possess potent metaphysical properties, imbuing the artwork with auspiciousness and divine power. The Madhuchista Vidhana process, a lost-wax casting method passed down through generations of South Indian artisans, involves a meticulous process of sculpting a wax model, encasing it in clay, firing it to melt out the wax, and then pouring molten metal into the void. This labor-intensive technique ensures unparalleled detail and a unique patina that only ages with grace, making each sculpture a timeless heirloom. The artisans of Swamimalai are custodians of this dying art form, their hands breathing life into metal with a skill honed over lifetimes. ––––––––––

Narratives of Divine Love and Divine Play

This sculpture captures a moment that resonates deeply within Hindu mythology. Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu, is celebrated for his divine charm, his wisdom, and his playful nature. Rukmini, his chief queen, represents unwavering devotion and spiritual purity, often depicted as Lakshmi incarnate. Satyabhama, another prominent queen, embodies strength and courage, a testament to Krishna's multifaceted divine relationships. The dynamic pose of Krishna suggests his divine leelas (divine plays), such as his enchanting flute performances that captivated the gopis or his playful interactions with his consorts. The presence of both queens signifies the completeness of Krishna's divine existence, embracing both the profound and the playful aspects of the divine. This artwork serves as a tangible reminder of the love, devotion, and divine joy that are central to the teachings of Vaishnavism.
