or Vallavur is credited with giving the ancient Tamil language its grammar-
Thirukural, along with numerous other poetic, philosophical, and religious
treatises that formed the roots of the language and its culture.
In his characteristic appearance, Thiruvalluvar wears his hair in a Jata, delineated with immense precision, and is wrapped in a saint’s garb, whose delicate folds are naturalistically captured in the hard granite, giving the stone a gentle almost liquid appearance.
With a benevolent expression on his face, Thiruvalluvar holds the stylus and manuscript in his hands, both exceptionally carved- from the etchings on the pen to the thread tying the papers. Sculptured in a rounded manner, the legendary saint sits on a blooming lotus, a universal symbol of wisdom and purity, elevating him as the one who sowed the seeds of Tamil’s literary richness.
