Ancient texts describe Garuda as an eagle. However he is almost always rendered in a part-human form, having the wings of a bird and a beak-like nose. He is shown here as a handsome youth with a prominent moustache, kneeling modestly on a rectangular pedestal with lotus petals on the lower level, his hands respectfully folded in the anjali mudra.

He wears a short dhoti and snakes as ornaments, including armbands and earrings. Both of his webbed wings open out on either side and a towering crown adorns his head.
