The Descent of Vishnu: A Tale of Ten Forms

Immerse yourself in the profound stories of divine intervention with this collection of ten bronze sculptures, each meticulously crafted in the renowned Swamimalai tradition. These sculptures depict the Dashavatara, the ten principal avatars of Vishnu, the preserver deity in the Hindu Trimurti. Through the ages, Vishnu has incarnated in various forms to restore dharma (righteousness) and vanquish evil, each descent a unique chapter in the cosmic drama. This set offers a tangible representation of these powerful narratives, bringing the ancient wisdom and divine energy into your home or sacred space. The Dashavatara are more than just tales; they are symbolic representations of evolution, transformation, and the eternal struggle between good and evil. Each avatar embodies specific qualities and characteristics, reflecting the needs and challenges of the era in which they appeared. From the humble fish to the mighty warrior, Vishnu’s forms offer a multifaceted perspective on the divine.

The Avatars: A Closer Look

The set begins with Matsya, the fish avatar, who saved Manu, the progenitor of humankind, from a great flood. This signifies the preservation of life and the beginning of a new cycle of creation. Next is Kurma, the tortoise, upon whose back the churning of the cosmic ocean took place, resulting in the emergence of amrita (nectar of immortality). Varaha, the boar, rescued the Earth from the depths of the cosmic ocean, lifting it on his tusks. Narasimha, the half-man, half-lion, emerged from a pillar to slay the demon Hiranyakashipu, who had become invincible through boons. Vamana, the dwarf, tricked the benevolent demon king Bali into granting him dominion over the three worlds. Parashurama, the warrior with the axe, cleansed the earth of tyrannical Kshatriyas (warrior class). Rama, the righteous king of Ayodhya, is the epitome of dharma and is celebrated in the epic Ramayana. Krishna, the cowherd and divine strategist, played a pivotal role in the Mahabharata war, teaching the invaluable lessons of the Bhagavad Gita. Buddha, the enlightened one, represents compassion and the path to liberation. Kalki, the final avatar, is yet to come, prophesied to appear at the end of the Kali Yuga, riding a white horse and wielding a sword to usher in a new age of truth. These bronze figures stand as silent witnesses to the unfolding of cosmic time, each pose and gesture conveying the essence of their respective stories. Owning this set is not just acquiring art; it is embracing a legacy of divine intervention and the timeless message of hope, righteousness, and the ultimate triumph of good.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
