The eternal and auspicious land of Kailasha with its divine residents descend into the art of Swamimalai bronze.

This composition presents Shiva-Parivaar, the Hindu ideal of a perfect family and cosmic balance in the magnificent traditional iconography.

Shaded by a naturalistically depicted tree that houses various animals in animated poses, Shiva’s family appears decked up for a heavenly portrait in metal.

Shiva as Pashupatinath is the tallest icon, the head of the family. With a perfectly set Jatamukuta and layered dhoti, Siva is serene and still, a manifestation of Purusha (primordial male energies).

Accompanying him is Parvati, the embodiment of femininity- wifely and motherly virtues, exquisite in appearance, carrying Kumara on her waist and holding the hand of a dotting Ganesha who seems to have walked on the lotus pedestal a few moments ago. The immaculate sculpting of each icon, the visible smile on their idealistically delineated faces, and their graceful poses fill the bronze composition with a sense of life.

Standing to the right of Shiva is Devarishi Narada, with his Veena, adorned with floral garland and Tripunda mark on his forehead, hinting at his devotion towards Shiva. Raising his hand in the gesture of singing a hymn, Narada expresses a devotee’s joy upon seeing the primordial ascetic Shiva turn into the divine householder.
