Superfine Large Shri Padmanabha Swamy (Vishnu) | Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) | Panchaloha Bronze from Swamimalai

Rs.11,55,210
MRP
Inclusive of All Taxes

Nestled within the coils of Sheshanaga, the great Vishnu Bhagwan dreams drshyam into being. The gentle, multi-headed Brahma emerges upon a lotus stem from His navel, while His wives, Bhoodevi and Shreedevi, sit tenderly at His feet. The Vishnu sculpture that you see on this page is a visual narrative of the beginning of the world according to Indian mythology.

The pale metallic colour of panchaloha adds to the surreal quality of this Vishnu sculpture. Overtones of a coppery blue colour bring out its resplendence. Panchaloha is a blend of five (‘pancha’) different iron-based (‘loha’) alloys, a kind of bronze that takes a lot of skill and a special metalcasting technique (madhuchista vidhana, traditional lost wax) to work with.

Note the wealth of detail introduced into each aspect of this larger-than-life Vishnu murti. Sheshanaga’s ample coils are as lifelike as they get. So is the stance and musculature of the tall, handsome supine Vishnu statue. Finally, the Lakshmi figures have been carved with consistent attention to detail.

The Divine Reclining: A Masterpiece of Vishnu's Cosmic Slumber

Behold a magnificent representation of Lord Vishnu in his cosmic slumber, a vision of divine repose and profound cosmic significance. This breathtaking sculpture captures the essence of Vishnu's transcendental state, resting upon the celestial serpent Adi Shesha, the primordial cosmic bed. Adi Shesha, with his thousand hoods, forms a protective canopy over the divine form, symbolizing infinite time and the eternal nature of the universe. The intricate detailing of each scale on the serpent's body speaks to the artist's mastery and devotion, bringing the divine narrative to life. In this majestic portrayal, Vishnu embodies the state of "Ananta Sayanam," where he reclines in eternal peace and meditation, from which the entire cosmos unfolds. The serene expression on his face, the gentle posture of his limbs, and the symbolic attributes he holds – though subtly depicted – all contribute to an aura of ultimate tranquility and omnipotence. The presence of Lakshmi, his divine consort, seated gracefully by his feet, adds a layer of auspiciousness and prosperity to the scene. She embodies beauty, fortune, and divine grace, ever attending to the Supreme Being. To the side, a representation of Brahma, the creator god, is also present, emerging from a lotus, symbolizing the genesis of creation that emanates from Vishnu's divine will. ––––––––––––––––––

Artistry and Tradition: The Panchaloha Legacy

This extraordinary piece is a testament to the ancient and revered art of "Madhuchista Vidhana," more commonly known as the lost-wax casting technique. This meticulous process, perfected over centuries by master artisans in Swamimalai, ensures unparalleled detail and exquisite finish. The Panchaloha, or five-metal alloy, used in its creation is composed of gold, silver, copper, tin, and zinc, an alchemical blend believed to imbue the sculpture with divine energies and exceptional durability. The patina adorning the bronze, a subtle verdigris, accentuates the divine form and adds a timeless quality, reminiscent of ancient relics unearthed from sacred sites. Each curve, each fold of fabric, and each majestic hood of the serpent is rendered with profound skill, reflecting a deep understanding of both the artistic and spiritual dimensions of the subject. This is not merely a statue; it is a conduit for devotion, an embodiment of sacred tradition, and a masterpiece of South Indian bronze casting.
