A Manifestation of Compassion

Behold the embodiment of active compassion, rendered in brass with exquisite detail. This sculpture depicts a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism, known for her swift response to those who call upon her. Her poised posture conveys both regal grace and an unwavering commitment to alleviating suffering. Notice the delicate craftsmanship evident in the intricate details of her crown and the vibrant mosaic-like patterns adorning her garments. Each element contributes to the overall impression of serenity and strength.

The Swift Savioress

In Tibetan Buddhism, she is known as Jetsun Dolma, or the "Noble Deliverer". The mythology surrounding her is rich and varied. She is often regarded as an emanation of Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Legend says that she was born from a tear shed by Avalokiteśvara as he witnessed the immense suffering of the world. Moved by his sorrow, she vowed to be reborn as a female Bodhisattva, dedicated to liberating all beings from their pain. She is particularly swift in her assistance, earning her the epithet "swift one," or "she who crosses quickly." It is said she is able to respond immediately to cries for help, offering solace and protection to those in need.

Iconography and Symbolism

Seated in the lotus position, she embodies stillness and meditation. Her right hand is extended in the varada mudra, the gesture of giving and compassion, offering blessings to all who approach her. In her left hand, she holds the stem of a lotus flower, symbolizing purity and enlightenment. The lotus, emerging from muddy waters, represents the potential for awakening that exists within each of us, even amidst the challenges of life. The vibrant colors adorning her garments are not merely decorative; they are imbued with symbolic significance. The brass itself has a golden hue and is adorned with red and turquoise accents. Each color is associated with specific qualities such as love and healing. The overall effect is one of radiant energy and transformative power. The regal crown and the necklaces speak to her ability to lead and the richness of her divine nature. This piece will not only be a great reminder of compassion and help to decorate one's personal alter or meditation space, but it will also be a great conversation starter as well.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
