The Earth Witness Mudra: A Symbol of Enlightenment

This exquisite brass statue captures the very moment of Siddhartha Gautama's enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The Buddha is depicted in a serene meditation posture, seated upon a beautifully ornate lotus pedestal. His left hand rests in his lap, palm upwards, holding a medicine bowl, symbolizing his healing and compassionate nature. His right hand, however, is the focal point, extended downwards and touching the earth. This gesture, known as the Bhumisparsha Mudra, or the Earth-Touching Gesture, is deeply symbolic.

Beneath the Bodhi Tree: A Legend Unfolds

According to Buddhist scriptures, it was in this very posture that the Buddha achieved enlightenment. As Siddhartha sat meditating beneath the Bodhi tree, the demon Mara, representing temptation and illusion, attempted to disrupt his path. Mara sent his daughters to seduce him and hurled weapons at him to break his concentration. The young prince remained steadfast, his gaze unwavering. When Mara declared that the gods themselves would bear witness to his claim over Siddhartha's throne, the Buddha simply lowered his right hand to the ground, calling the Earth itself as his witness. The Earth goddess, Bhumi, responded, confirming Siddhartha's rightful claim and his attainment of Buddhahood. This powerful gesture signifies the Buddha's unwavering resolve, his deep connection to the terrestrial realm, and the ultimate triumph of wisdom over delusion.

Artistry and Devotion

Crafted from high-quality brass, this statue embodies both artistic mastery and profound spiritual significance. The intricate details of the Buddha's robes, adorned with decorative patterns, speak to the skill of the artisan. The serene expression on his face, with closed eyes and a gentle smile, conveys a sense of profound peace and inner stillness. The lotus base, a universal symbol of purity and spiritual awakening, further enhances the statue's sacred aura. This piece is not merely a decorative object but a powerful representation of Buddhist philosophy and a source of inspiration for contemplation and meditation. Its presence can transform any space into a sanctuary of peace and mindfulness, inviting a connection to the timeless wisdom of the Buddha.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
