Benarasi brocades from time immemorial have been the norm of courtly fashions in north India. Woven in heavy silk traditionally, they used gold and silver threads to weave motifs that are drawn from the diverse fauna of the country. The weaves thus had exquisite floral and creeper pattern making the fabric really rich.
This dress borrows from the rich brocade traditions but comes in a very light variety of silk. The texture is soft and feather light and yet has the luster of silk. This dress comes in a maroon color with the brocade weave on the neck extending down to the yoke until the end of the dress. There is a red slip along with the dress.
The salwar is in plain maroon color. The most exquisite part is the accompanying dupatta. It is as beautiful as a brocade sari. There are small white butis woven on the body of the dupatta. The border has a series of floral and creeper patterns. The ends of the dupatta has a very rich weave of large mango leaf patterns woven with floral patterns inside the leaves.
