India has a long tradition of hand painted textiles, where the cloth is treated in natural chemicals and painted with natural dyes. The Kalamkari textiles of Andhra Pradesh are one of the hand painted textiles of India. Contemporary hand paintings are done with fabric paints using traditional and contemporary motifs. These colors are fast and remain on the sari despite washes.

This hand painted sari comes in a bright mustard color and a light cotton texture that makes a cool summer wear. The hand painting on the sari is done on the border and the pallav. The motifs are rural and represent the countryside of India. The painting has two village women performing a 'Puja', with a Diya(traditional lamp) and a Kalash (traditional pot with mango leaves and coconut). The depiction of women is very colorful with the use of different hues. The eyes in the painting are a reminder of the eyes of the Devi (goddess). These motifs are present both on the border and the pallav.
