French shawl designer of the 19th century, called Berrus, left a profound imprint of his creative style not only on the industry of France but Kashmir too! This echarpe or scarf has a design which is Kashmir's ubiquitous emblem. This cone shape in various forms dominates shawl designs of Kashmir. Here it appears as an elegant but highly stylized scroll-like form, its elongated extremities ending like a celery stalk. This is Berrus' sweeping zoomorphic boteh. On a purple and black base, the design has these two colour together with beige which makes the pattern outstanding. A wide area of the plain colour is left unembellished with the platen concentrated on one corner of the shawl .... reaching up to the middle of the length. The pattern dictates how this stole has to be worn; the patterned part falling in front from the shoulder and the plain part at the back. The border having mehrab and floral pattern add to the glory of this rich stole.
