The first film, released in India in 1913, was ‘Raja Harishchandra’, produced by Dada Saheb Phalke and since then Indian film industry has grown by leaps and bounds. Today it is perhaps the largest industry, and in terms of number of films produced every year, india has surpassed even Hollywood.

About The Author
Ramesh Dawar, aged 63, is the General Secretary of Delhi Cine-Goers Council since 1967, and his outstanding contributions to radio, television and various newspapers and journals, as a film critic, led him to be nominated as a member of Preview Committee of the 33rd International Films Festival of India 2002. he has also been a recipient of several awards as a film columnist.
