Book Description
Preface
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the 12th leading cause of death and 17th cause of disability worldwide. Appropriate screening, diagnosis, and management by primary care clinicians are necessary to prevent adverse CKD-associated outcomes, including cardiovascular disease, end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and death.

CKD is defined as a persistent abnormality in kidney structure or function (eg, glomerular filtration rate [GFR] <60> This book has got 2 sections. Section A is mainly focused on screening of CKD in general population. There are 8 chapters in section A which describe various aspects of screening of CKD in general population on world kidney day( WKD) for three consecutive years, middle aged and elderly population, overweight and obese population, school children and adolescents, CKD screening in women depending on the yearly theme of WKD, CKD screening on WKD for five consecutive years, Proteinuria as a marker of kidney disease; screening experience for nine years in Varanasi and CKD screening experience of ten years in Varanasi on WKD. Section B describes mainly diagnosis and management of CKD. There are 3 chapters in section B namely Chronic kidney disease diagnosis and management, Renal replacement therapy, indication of dialysis: which type and when? and Guidelines for nephrology and dialysis practice in Covid-19 pandemic.

This book will help empower health care providers to identify those at high risk of CKD, order appropriate diagnostic tests, help prevent further disease progression, and reduce comorbid cardiovascular risk in patients with CKD. Most patients with CKD can be managed in primary care. Serial follow up is essential to identify patients at high risk of progression to advanced stages of CKD, including end-stage kidney disease Primary care clinicians must continue to work together with local nephrologists to improve the lives of those living with CKD. Most of the chapters in the book are informative and fully updated. I am sure that the primary care clinicians will certainly appreciate the relevant information described in this book. This can help them in managing CKD patients hence saving lives of millions of patients and also save their families from facing the menace of chronic kidney disease.
