About The Author

Sudha Subramaniam was born on 12th June 1966 in Kottayam in Kerala (God's Own Land). Poignantly recalling the tall coconut trees arching skywards, the abundantly flowing rivers and the charm of rowing along in one's own boat, she says marvellous Kerala will forever captivate her heart and entice her to unfold in verse; to capture in prose; immemorable moments of touching times, raphsodical revelry in bountiful beauty, the tendency in man for artistic abandon.

The poetess grew up and was educated in Mumbai city. A B.Com graduate and C.A.Inter, she went on to do her Diploma in Tax Management and Software Management.

Her passion for writing surfaced right from younger days and permeated her life, till circumstances enabled her to emphasise on her first love, writing.

Today apart from practicing her own consultancy, the author is also a freelance writer as well as a consultant for Times NIE speaking on the topic, 'Heritage' and allied topics.

The anthology of poems, The Dawn of Creation' is a unique collection of expression, of the unfathomable depth in man. It draws us into the vortex of creation, to perceive the spark that kindles the fire.

Foreword

Through the passage of time man's creativity has unleashed itself in the form of monuments, carvings, sculptures, dance, drama and art. Yet no art can vie with the perfection of nature, of universal creation.

Indeed, nature is the greatest inspirer.

One such place in the lap of nature is the holy place of Hrishikesh. In days of yore one could find many holy people abounding here, engaged in the pursuit of truth.

From Haridwar if one follows the dense Himalayan jungles towards the north for fourteen miles one can reach Hrishikesh, flanked by mountains to the east and north and the wide, sparkling Ganga vying for attention as it reflects the dense tropical forests. The place breathes of divinity and hermits and mendicants have found the place ideal for meditation and serene contemplation.

Yet the ravages of time have fast caught up with Hrishikesh as with everyone and everything. The number of holy men here has decreased considerably, the jungles too have faced the onslaught of man's undying quest for material wants.

Author's Preface

The Instance That Gave Rise to the Poem:

Watch Out:

The global warming which has resulted due to depletion of forest cover and chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons has led to widespread depletion of the ozone layer. As a result, even the Himalayan ice- caps are melting and we may well be in for a future deluge.

In Mumbai city as in so many other places, natural environment has come under the builder's axe. New constructions keep mushrooming, while forest cover gets depleted. This was one of the main reasons for the spate of leopard attacks in the city.

Oil slicks caused by oil spills, plastic, harmful chemicals, all these endanger both animal and marine life as well as the biosphere.

This truth of ecological degeneration that stares us in the face struck me as man's own folly at not caring for his environment, for it is nature that rocks his cradle and nature that rules the world.
