About the Book These explanations are a transcribed and edited version of V. Ananda Reddy's talks on Sri Aurobindo's The Synthesis of Yoga pertaining to the above listed chapters. He has attempted to present in a simple language the main philosophical arguments of these chapters.

About the Author Dr. V. Ananda Reddy is the Director of Sri Aurobindo Centre for Advanced Research, Puducherry. Having completed his studies at Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, Puducherry in 1969, he joined Auroville in 1971 and participated in its early efforts towards Human Unity.

He has travelled widely in India and abroad and delivered extensive lectures and conducted workshops on the vision and works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.

He has authored five volumes of books on Sri Aurobindo's The Life Divine and one on Savitri. About 20 volumes are in the pipeline for publication, Dr. Reddy has to his credit about 1500 hours of audio-video recordings on the works and vision of Sri Aurobindo.

Preface If The Life Divine is the metaphysics of Integral Yoga, The Synthesis of Yoga is the path of transformation from human to divine life. That is to say, in The Life Divine Sri Aurobindo explains on a rational basis and analyses in depth all human thinking, and all human assumptions and then finally arrives at his conclusion regarding human destiny and the evolutionary destiny of the earth. But in The Synthesis of Yoga, he shows us the path leading towards that destiny. So in a way, The Synthesis of Yoga could be taken as something on the individual level, whereas The Life Divine is a master vision of collective and human evolution. On the personal level, The Synthesis of Yoga is of greatest help because, here, unlike The Life Divine - which we need to understand with our higher mental faculties we need to feel the teachings deep within. Unless and until there is an attempt to follow the basic guidelines given in this book, we may not be able to experience its underlying rasa. In brief, The Life Divine is the theory, and The Synthesis of Yoga is the praxis!
