About the Book:

This book is a comprehensive account of the various forms in Indian music. The Gharanas of Indian music have been discussed elaborately in this book. In vocal music the author has discussed Dhrupad, Khayal and Thumari. In instrumental music, Gharanas of Sitar, Sarod and Tabla have been discussed. Besides this five leading forms of Karnatak music have been covered in this book along with reviews of some of the most recent books on music.

About the Author:

He taught English Literature but his passion is classical music-both Indian and Western. He studied music under Pandit Mohan Lal kathak, Professor Govind Rao Rajurkar and Professor Suresh. Dr. Karnani was a Visiting Fellow at Indian Institute of Advanced Study Shimla where he organized All-Indian Seminar on Indian music. He has worked on I. A Richards at Magdalene College, Cambridge. He was national Emeritus Fellow appointed by University Grants Commission. He has written ten books.
