Book Description
About the Book
From a Distance" is a beautiful compilation of real-life experiences of the author Smt. Vasumathi avinthiran and her relationship with her dear Swami, Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Just like a sapling that grows on the floor of a thick rain forest, relying on the sun that is a million miles apart, she is nurtured by the teachings and grace of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The book is a narration of her own "Chinna Katha" (small story), composed of those special moments of touch of Divine Grace. The author, through her book, primarily showcases Bhagawan and His Divine Love for posterity to know and be aware that Bhagawan is real and never an obscure concept and that His devotees are never beyond the grasp of His Love. She firmly believes that this book will help reinstate and reaffirm human belief and trust in Divine providence to be an ultimate magical saga of comfort and bliss.

About the Author

Acknowledgements
I dedicate this book to my parents, Leelavathy and Thandayuthapani. A very special thanks to my father for introducing Swami to me and to my mother for her continued love and steadfast faith in Swami. My husband for his continued support, my pillar of strength and my spiritual companion. My beautiful children, Divya and Vivek for loving Swami and embracing Him full heartedly. My parents in law, Uncle Vijayasingam and Aunty Mani for loving me like a daughter and for being the epitome of love, sacrifice, and forbearance. I also wish to thank the many angels gifted to me by Swami, in the order they arrived in my life; Aunty Jaya Ramachandran (Malaysia), Uncle Thasan and Aunty Lalitha Thasan (London), Aunty Meena (London), & Sister Kalyani Karna (Melbourne). My sincere and heartfelt thanks to Sis Vrushali Sudha (Melbourne) for her enthusiastic participation and time in laboriously perusing through these pages and assisting me with her invaluable input and writing the Foreword, to Aunty Mano Baskaran (Malaysia) for her unconditional love throughout my life.

Foreword
At the outset, I consider this my humbling honour and privilege to be a diminutive part of this divine offering to our most beloved Lord - Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. This book is neither an exposition of spiritual aphorisms or postulates, nor is it an elucidation of complex metaphysical principles, only to be comprehended by esoterics. It is simply an articulation of prodigious and intense love and devotion, evolved through profound experiential conviction in Swami's divine providence and will. Another aspect attributable to this evolution is Sister Vasumathi's spiritual legacy and upbringing, which is indeed a part of Swami's divine design. From the triumphant and jubilant exultations to the exasperated frustrations and endurance of turbulent tests... all these experiential learnings reaffirm and reinstate our belief that Swami has a unique, divine plan and a unique relationship with each, and every one of us. As one ponderously peruses through this book - one can only marvel at the metamorphosis of this divine story From a Distance... Near and yet ever so dear....

Preface
This is a humble offering written to canonise my relationship with my beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, whom I refer to as Swami. I titled this book, 'From a Distance' because that is my relationship with Swami. This book is written to showcase Him and His love. I wanted, firstly, for my children and grandchildren (when they arrive) to know that Swami is real and not an obscure concept. That He is neither folklore nor a distant, incomprehensible God. I felt it was my duty to pass on this spiritual legacy to my lineage. Secondly, I wanted every reader to know that we are never beyond the grasp of His love. Have you ever wondered how a sapling grows on the floor of a thick rainforest? A plant grows relying on the sun which is a million miles away. I am one such plant and so are you. Swami says, "Distance is no bar for the dawn of love, the lotus blooms as soon as the sun peeps over the horizon". He can and will reach out to us wherever we are. I earnestly implore the reader to peruse through this simple narrative from a prejudice free perspective. I make this request with absolute apperception that my experiences may seem like mere coincidences or a mere play of the mind or witless idiosyncrasies to a rational mind. Nonetheless, I write this book in the hope that it will attribute in reinstating and reaffirming our belief and trust in Divine providence to be an ultimate magical saga of comfort and bliss.
