This is Dr. Madhumita Dutta's first collection of short stories. The themes are from life's daily occurrences, and characters too resemble common beings whom we meet ordinarily. And because of the simplicity of language and style, and the touch with experienced reality, readers can easily identify with the characters and their stories, which are, after all, stories of human life and passion and emotions. The collection is readable and enjoyable.
Dr. Madhumita Dutta is Associate Professor in the Department of English, Vidyasagar College for Women, Kolkata She has 7 published books to her credit, besides a number of articles in books and journals. She has presented papers in various International conferences abroad, mainly on Sri Aurobindo's works and feminism.
My first book of stories I dedicate to Lord Ganesha-my deity in my distress.
These are stories of Love and Loneliness with all the paraphernalia of emotions that accompany these states of the soul. The unfulfilled desires, the destroyed hopes, the shocks of betrayal, the burden of misery and the pain of separation that Love gifts to man leading him sometimes to the despair of solitude, are the themes here. Love ""vanishes', but there is still something more to say! When in love, one may expect sorrow, betrayal, rejection, opposition, hate and envy in great measure, and yet-look at the folly of the human heart-it never learns its lesson, it goes ahead and plunges deep into the fathomless ocean of Love; and there is Loneliness, when Love flies away. These stories weave the drama of human life and relationship, sometimes happy, sometimes sad. They may not always agree with known facts and experienced reality as scientific precision has not been maintained always; imagination has supplied most of the raw ingredients of the tales! I wish to thank my publisher Avenel Press for bringing out this collection.
