Book Description
Introduction

GLORY Be To GOD: The Earth is Beautiful celebrates the beauty of our green planet inhabiting vivid forms of life. Both the animate and the inanimate are beautiful. Beauty is very subjective. The concept of beauty differs from person to person. What is beautiful for one individual may be not so beautiful for another. Beauty lies in the beholder's eyes. Instead of growing philosophical about beauty, the present work tries to view the beauty of the earth in relation to human life. The beauty of the earth cannot be viewed setting aside the beauty of human life. Our earth is the most beautiful planet of the cosmos and man is the most beautiful creature of the earth. It is imperative for the homo sapiens to realise the beauty of their lives as well as the beauty of the planet that offers them the atmosphere and conditions to sustain life. Our invaluable life is not to be fizzled out merely in the fursuit of material gains. Money is important only to a specific extent. It is not the principal motto of life to grow rich by accumulating tons of gold, silver and diamonds. They are there to enhance the beauty of the body. They cannot make one breathe or inhale or exhale. They are secondary. The primary object of human life is to live happily with the spirit of humanism. The great human virtues of tolerance, generosity, kindheartedness, truthfulness, nobility of character and benevolence make life beautiful. They also generate conditions to make our earth more beautiful. If these virtues are thrown to the backseat, life becomes wretched with the torrential onset of violence, terror, horror, injustice, ill-will, hatred, jealousy and series of wars dirupting the rhythm of life. Man is the crown creation. He is to be sober, calm and sagacious to uphold the positive virtues not only for his own survival but also for the survival of the eco-system of the earth.

The trouble begins when man becomes oblivious of the fact that our earth is a living planet. The death of the earth is the death of the entire human race. The diversity of human life makes the earth a charming breathing planet. Here is God's plenty everywhere. There is no shortage of any object or material necessary for the growth of life. We have rivers, mountains, hills, green pastures, high plateaus, fathomless seas, fruit-yielding trees, flaura and fauna and what not! The earth is always rich in her offerings to her children. The short sightedness of man does not allow him to see the beauty of the earth in the proper perspective. We make untiring efforts to show the beauty of human body. Fashion-parades are organised to make people aware of the latest fashions in vogue. Beauty contests are the most eye-catching events. Beautiful young women compete with each other to win the titles such as Miss Universe, Miss World or Miss Earth. Our attention is drawn towards these contests and events because the organisors have their eyes fixed on various fashion-products and cosmetics that see the tramendous boom of sales all over the world fetching crores of rupees, dollars or pounds to their manufacturers and producers. It is all is related to profit. We turn a blind eye to the beauty of the earth whose beauty has been the subject-matter of the literatures written by the great writers of the world since the early dawn of human civilisation. The authors were inspired by the beauty of the stars, trees, plants, animals, birds, mountains and springs. They saw the earth as a living entity. They offered their prayers to the earth. The great English poet John Keats saw the Beauty of the Earth and wrote such odes as Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to a Nightingale, and Ode on Autumn. He found the beauty of the earth irrestible. He was inspired to see Beauty equivalent to Truth. 'Beauty is Truth, Truth beauty, that is all', this is what he declared in his immortal poem Ode on a Grecian Urn. Our Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant too perceived the Beauty of the Earth and wrote his poems to celebrate the beauty of life. He had a cohesive vision to appreciate the beauty of the earth as well as the beauty of human life in the same measure. He found the birds and the blooming blossoms beautiful but human beauty seemed to him more lively and enticing. The great prophet of nationalism and thinker Sri Aurobindo sang his songs in the appreciation of the beauty of the earth in his various poems. He saw the presence of the divine beauty in all the objects of the universe. Wordsworth, the great English romantic poet, too celebrated the beauty of the earth and human life in his great verse. 'My heart leaps up when I behold a rainbow in the sky', he wrote in an inspired mood and found the presence of the divine beauty everywhere. He found Nature to be man's best teacher and guide. To him, 'a glimpse from the vernal wood' is more powerful in enlightening man than what all the sages and saints cannot teach together. No doubt, these poets and thinkers had the appropriate vision to behold the beauty of the earth. They were not myopic. Their approach to life was formed by their sublime thoughts. They could see the beauty of the entire cosmos in their escstatic visions. They were the true worshippers of beauty.
