Though he was busy with his study of English literature, he never gave up his moorings in Sanskrit studies and ancient Indian Culture and Philosophy. The author is a lifelong student of Hinduism and Abrahamanic religions. He has read very deeply into their scriptures. He is well-versed in Sanskrit and has studied in the original most of the important Hindu scriptures. He is well aware of the fact that the spiritual tradition which originated in the Vedas has developed into a grand continuum which is identified all the world over as modern day Hinduism.
Unlike Abrahamanic faiths, namely, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Hinduism is not a closed system, stagnant and frozen with a single prophet, a single gospel and a single ever-jealous intolerant God. It is a natural growth from the meditations and philosophical speculations of innumerable vibrant minds who were constantly in search of the Transcendental. It is not averse to questions, however disturbing and full of philosophical implications. It is clearly for this reason that in our modern world of science Hinduism alone can stand high and tall. The basic tenets Abrahamanic faiths have already been disproved by science. This book devotes many of its chapters to the discussion of this subject alone. It throws a valuable comparative light on all these religions by juxtaposing their tenets. No other book has so far done this for reasons not difficult to guess. It is hoped that this book will help both friends and adversaries, followers and critics of Hinduism to understand this great and only philosophical religion better.
Smt Shraddha Patwe undertook the responsibility of preparing the D. T. P. typescript and meticulously prepared the text. Special thanks are due to the veteran R.S.S. ideologue Shri. Ranga Hari for his learned and encouraging Foreword.
I wish to sincerely thank the trustees of Bharatiya Vichar Sadhana for having undertaken this publication.
Still, Hinduism is the most misunderstood, most misrepresented and most viciously maligned religion. It is constantly under attack from some well-entrenched forces, both global and indigenous.
