Book Description
Preface

Since the discoveries of Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch the medical world has come to believe in the simple dogma "kill the germs and cure the disease". But subsequent experience has revealed that there is an elusive factor call susceptibility of the patient which is behind infection and actual outbreak of disease. As homoeopathy is mainly concerned with reactions of the human organism to different morbid factors, microbial or otherwise. The role of bacteria or viruses in the production of disease is therefore in homoeopathy quite secondary.

But the knowledge of bacteriology is never the less important to become a complete homoeopathic physician as it is more important for the diagnosis, prognosis, prevention of disease and general management of a case. Similarly pathology gives us the knowledge for disease determination, prognosis, for discrimination between symptoms of the patient and symptoms of the disease and for adjusting the dose and potency of indicated homoeopathic remedy.’

However only broad basic training in pathology, free from specialist bias, should be imparted to students. Teachers of pathology should never loose sight of the fact that they are training medical practitioners, especially homoeopathic practitioners, and not technicians and specialists in pathology. The living patient, and not the corpse, should be the central theme in the teaching of the subject.

Considering the above, I have humbly embarked myself on this arduous endeavour particularly to meet the requirements of the student to corelate the subjective symptoms with the objective ones, and to interpret clinical symptoms and their inter relationship on the basis of underlying pathology and also the practitioner for self guidance who have no laboratory near them in which pathological diagnosis is under taken.

As this book is written on a model of answers to questions of the important Universities, Boards and Councils the reader can be guided well about the important and practical aspects of this subject matter. As far as possible most of the subject matters have been covered and written in a concise and simplified form according to latest syllabus for degree, graded degree and diploma courses as prescribed by the Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi (1983). To make it a standard help as well as text book in place of any standard text book the matter of this book has been derived from reference of different standard text books, research journals and papers on this subject, and are compiled in a compact and simplified form. The most important figures and latest concept of this subject have been incorporated whenever needed.

I am grateful to Sri Birendra Nath Roy, Sri Sontosh Kr. Kar, Sri Tapas Kr. Roy, Sri Tarapada Mondal and Sri Bimal Kanti Malakar of Roy Book Stall without whose efforts and active co-operation this treatise could not have been brought to light in time. It will be an act of great injustice on my part if I fail to mention the name of Dr. Narendra Keshori Banerjee and Dr. B.N. Nandi, of Bengal Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital for extending his co-operative hand to complete the manu-scripts.

Finally, I would like to state that it would be too much to hope the first edition should be entirely free of errors or omission and commission, and in conclusion, I shall consider my efforts fully recompensed if the book serves the purpose for which it is written and published.
