In this our India, a land of lore and tradition, parents have always been depicted as those who rear their children in the traditions of valor and duty, often making great sacrifices to attain their ideals. Lav and Kush had for their mother none other than Sita, daughter of Goddess Earth. A Sati who not only endured fourteen years of exile, but also her kidnapping and captivity in Ashokvan, by the demon kind Ravana. Her ordeals do not end with her triumphant return to Ayodhya with her consort Ram, the Maryada Purush of the Traitheya Yuga.
Her chastity proved by her ordeal through fire, her husband sends her away to appease his subjects, who have cast aspersions on Sita’s loyalty and chastity. There in the wilderness does she give birth to the twins Law and Kush. With sage Valmiki as her mentor, she single handedly raises her children, teaching them the Vedas, imbuing in them a sense of duty and morality. She raises them so well that they do not fear to challenge and take on the mighty army of the lord of Ayodhya Shri Ram himself.
