Lesser Writings by Dr J.T. Kent was first published in 1926. This
collection contains 29 remedies, many clinical cases, writings from
letters, published articles and lectures of Dr Kent. He has described
new remedies like : Aurum salts; arsenicum iodatum; and sulphuratum,
Calendula officinalis, Wyethia helenoides, and a proving of Cenchris
contortrix. Among the lectures, topics covered are the homeopathic
treatment of cancer, how to study and use the repertory, and an
exposition on his use of the potency series, 30, 200, 1M, 10M. Over 100
case vignettes are included from the treatment of acute mania to the
cure of infantile paralysis. The clinical cases published in this book are
those from Dr Kent’s practice. All are considered of great value to the
students of Homoeopathy. However, this work presents a grand
opportunity to observe how Kent practiced: how he studied remedies,
what symptoms he paid attention to, why he used certain potencies.
This entire collection is only a part of Dr Kent’s writings and were
selected from various libraries after considerable efforts and are
considered the best results of his pen.
James Tyler Kent, MD (born in Woodhull, New York, 1849 - died Stevensville,
Montana, 1916). He proved many new remedies, pioneered the use of highly
potentized homeopathic remedies, and in 1897 published his repertory. He advocated
the use of potencies made on the centesimal scale. Dr Kent introduced the doctrine of,
‘Series in Degrees’ in the treatment of chronic diseases, "Theory of Octaves’, ‘Law of
Vital Action and Reaction’. He laid importance on mind symptoms in chronic cases. He
taught Materia Medica at the Homoeopathic Medical College of St. Louis, from 1881-88, at the School of Homoeopathy, Philadelphia from 1890-99, at Hahnemann Medical
College and Hospital, Chicago from 1903-9, and Hering Medical College Hospital.
This volume is published at the request of
many of Doctor Kent’s admirers from all parts
of the world. It contains remedies which have
never before appeared in book form. They were
published in medical journals several years ago
and are all verified by Doctor Kent himself.
