Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maliaraj has written in GODMAN (Chapter 11 Page 69) "Life comes from Life, as Light comes from Light. It is only an Awakened Soul that can rouse us from our deep slumber.
We may read Scriptures for ages upon ages and perform countless sacrificial deeds, but cannot have Spiritual Awakening and Spiritual insiglit.
Spirituality can neither be bought nor taught, but may be caught like any infectious disease from One Who may Himself be Spiritually infected, may rather, obsessed.
"The Teachings of the Saints have not only to be learned, but have also to be revealed. Besides knowledge of the theory of the Path, it has to be seen, Experienced, and verified. It is at once a science and an art, into the mysteries of which only on Adept can safely lead, guide, and take us through."
This book presents the biography and Teachings of Lord Kabir, Who has been called "The Father of Spirituality" by Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj.
The story is a memorable one, outlining how the Living Master gives one the competence to rise above the body, the mind, and the senses. The Living Master grants a Practical Experience of inverting one's attention from the world outside and travelling into the Beyond, at which time a Spiritual Awakening occurs.
All topics of Spirituality are revealed through the Teachings of Sant Kabir, including the importance of ethical living, the nature and necessity of a Perfect Living Master, and the process of Meditation on the Mystic Word, of the Holy Naam.
Sharan Malhotra was born in Toronto, Canada in 1948. She earned A.R.C.T. (1966), Mus. Bac. (1971), and B.Ed.(1972) from the University of Toronto, Canada. As a young child, she was gripped with an intense yearning to solve the mystery of... life and death. Aspiring to find answers to her most basic questions on Spirituality, she quickly grew tired of the meaningless rituals of traditional religions. Studying the major Western religions, she instinctively knew that the Divine Experiences of the past Saints and Holy Men could also be known by sincere -seekers after Truth.
It was in 1969, when she was brought by the Grace of Almighty God to the Lotus Feet of her own Master, His Holiness Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj, that the purpose and fulfillment of this birth came to Light. The Great Master, in His own Ineffable Way, revealed an awareness of the basic Truth underlying all religions, and the need for a Living Teacher, an Adept proficient in the Science of the Beyond, Who can lead one from the earthly to the Divine.
In 1974 Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj's Spiritual Successor, Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj, continued the Grace of Divinity, guiding her further on the Spiritual Path. Since 1989 Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj's Successor, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji has graciously afforded still further guidance. She is the author of "Divine Darshan", a book of intimate and heart-warming stories from the author's own personal experiences with Sant Kirpal Singh Ji and Sant Darshan Singh Ji.
This auspicious year marks the Sixth Birth Centenary (1398-1998) of Sant Kabir. It is a great joy to see such a wonderful book, expounding on the life and Teachings of this Great Saint. His timeless words reflect the presentation of Spirituality in its simplest form, as an Eternal and Unchangeable Truth.
Kabir Sahib came to present to the world an in-depth and analytical study of the most ancient science that the world has ever known. It is the study of the Inner Self, which is a science of practical analysis, in the pursuit of which one obtains self-knowledge and God-realization, through the Grace of Almighty God and the Living Master. Never before had these Teachings been presented so openly to humanity in general.
Sant Kabir came at a very critical time in history. India was in the grip of chaotic conditions. Religion itself had degenerated into formalism, and people were losing faith in its meaningless rituals. In this period of darkness and confusion, Sant Kabir provided the Divine Light. Preaching the Love of God and the Love of human unity, He taught that everyone is born equal: none is high and none is low. In essence, Sant Kabir taught the Universal religion of 'man'. His aim was to reform religion, and to lift it from the complexity of theoretical, formal rites to the simplicity of practical Experience.
Overflowing with the Love and Glory of Almighty God, Sant Kabir taught the 'Inner Life' of the spirit, offering the Water of Life and the Bread of Life (Holy Naam) to the hungry souls of humanity. He said that once having partaken of this, nothing else remains to be received. The Divine Light that had manifested within Him, guided whoever came to His Lotus Feet.
Intoxicated with the Love of the Lord, in His All-Pervading Grace, Sant Kabir remained always in a state of perpetual ecstasy and inebriation. He ascribed this to Spiritual discipline and regular meditation, which results in progress on the Spiritual Path.
His disciples came from far-off places such as Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia, as well as from all over India. They included the 'high-caste' Brahmins as well as the low-caste' Sudras, the Sufis, the Muslims, and a complete diversity of people, knit together like so many pearls on a string of Love.
Sant Kabir radiated Love and Light to the world for 120 years, remaining the very essence of humility. His followers dedicated themselves as humble servants of God, worshipping the Lord in the simplicity of the Inner Self.
The timeless words of Sant Kabir are as true today as they have been throughout the ages. Let us strive to live up to the Highest Spiritual Ideal, which is ensouled and exemplified within His verses. The purpose of celebrating the birth anniversary of a Great Saint is to remind us of His Teachings and His Ideals, thereby pursuing the Higher Purpose of the hu-man life.
It is my hope and prayer that the Message of Sant Kabir will encourage the reader to follow in His footsteps, thereby making one's own life sublime, a fitting Tribute to His Sweet Memory.
