About the Author

Born on 20th November, 1962 at Agra, Anil Kumar Verma had his education at St. Peter's College, Agra College and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, formerly Agra University, Agra. After having his M.Phil. degree, he worked as a lecturer in Agra College for one academic session. In 1988, he joined post-graduate department of History and Culture of Bhim Rao Ambedkar University as lecturer to teach M.A. & M.Phil. Classes. He got Ph.D. degree in 1992 on Monuments of Bharatpur State. He was appointed Reader in 2003 in the same department through direct selection.

Besides contributing a number of articles to reputed research journals, newspapers and magazines, he has been actively participating in National and International seminars. He has been incharge of Archival Studies & and Gandhian Studies of the University. At present, he is Chairman of Sports Council and Member of Executive Council of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra.

The Jats as a dominant agriculturist community operating in the north and north-western parts of the Indian Subcontinent, which on account of their natural and human resources and location played a crucial role in the political fortunes of the country. Similarly impact of the growth of Jat movement in particular their militarization in Braj region had implications far beyond the region itself.

The Jat rulers were persons with vision who established not only socio-economic-politico structures but also left an everlasting legacy in the form of art and architecture. The monuments constructed by them are a reflection of their personal traits as well as their clan and society. The opulent lifestyle of Bharatpur rulers reflected in the palaces, fountains, lawns and tanks. The pleasure palaces of Deeg served as a summer resort for the royal families.
