The book Pranipadapaparimalah Flora and Fauna in Indological studies itself embodies the implication of the topic in the field of Indology. Indeed scientific approach in plant and animal world adopted in Sanskrit literature opens a new vista in realizing the vital need of humanity aimed towards consolidating and maintaining healthy human societies. An attempt has been made in this book to unravel the scientific knowledge pertaining to flora and fauna as enshrined in indology and its relevance in the present-day society.
This work consists of eighteen articles both unpublished and published in various journals and different academic forums aimed towards making a documentation of discussions on flora and fauna in Indological studies in general and Sanskrit literature in particular. This could be a ready reckoner on the subject for young and enterprising students and scholars who possess innate inquisitiveness to unearth the scientific sagacity in plant and animal world adopted in Indology.
Dr. Mukta Biswas is a senior Professor of the Dept. of Sanskrit, Gauhati University, Guwahati. She passed M.A. in Sanskrit from Gauhati University and received three gold medals for obtaining the highest marks in the subject. She stood first in M.Phil. degree examination and obtained Ph.D. degree from the Gauhati University in 1995. She joined the Gauhati University as a Reader in Sanskrit in 1999 and became Professor in 2009. Prof. Biswas served the Dept. of Sanskrit as its Head from 2012 to 2015. Apart from teaching at M.A. and M.Phil. levels and supervising Ph.D. programmes, she has authored Samkhya-Yoga Epistemology and Indian Philosophical Wisdom: Some Glimpses. Besides, she has been involved in running various research projects. She has to her credit as many as fifty research articles published in various National and International journals.
