Book Description
About The Book

Despised by her father and bullied by his heir, Didda's childhood is miserable and her future bleak. When she is married off to the dissolute ruler of Kashmira, she must learn to hold her own in a court ridden with factions and conspiracies.

But Didda is no ordinary queen. Ruthless and ambitious, she wants to rewrite history. Will she succeed?

Queen of Ice is a compulsive read that brings alive the turbulent history of tenth-century Kashmir with an exquisite balance of fact and fiction. This is award-winning author Devika Rangachari's finest novel yet.

This engaging book ... raises awareness of an important period in history and provokes questions on gender stereotypes [and] introduces a female protagonist who is both vulnerable and brutal while paradoxically loved and feared."

--Citation for the Neev Book Award 2018 This book was the winner of the Neev Book Award 2018.

About the Author

Dr Devika Rangachari is an award-winning children's writer who is also pursuing her post-doctoral research in Indian history from the University of Delhi.

Devika is extremely fond of historical fiction and is usually wandering somewhere in the past. She reads more than she writes until friendly-yet-stern editors feed her copious quantities of chocolate and tell her to get started. At this point, her nephew and niece chivvy her into being focused-the one by counting aloud the number of words and the other, by pouncing on stray grammatical errors. Once the book is done, Devika floats gently back into the world of history.
