Book Description
About the Book
The goal of science is to find one theory that unifies everything. It is a search for the underlying unity that makes the universe work, from the subatomic to the cosmic levels. Yoga says that to find unity outside, create unity within. The word Yoga means to unite. Yoga brings this search within. It is a science of life, verified by personal experience. Can these two streams of discovery converge, one approaching unity from outside and another from within? What is the evidence of this convergence? This book spans the entire spectrum of Vedic and Yogic approaches and delves into the latest scientific discoveries, highlighting the common principles. If this rollercoaster of a book challenges you to seek more, its purpose will have been fulfilled.

Introduction
The The Sanskrit word for self-study is swadhyaya, a study related to the nature of the Self. Swa points to Self, and adhyaya means to study. This book is swadhyaya, a practical study of ancient Indian yogic culture and philosophy in the modern scientific context. Hence, this writing can be considered study notes and self-reflection. This study is also an aid to my spiritual practice or sadhana. Both swadhyaya and sadhana, like scientific research, are continuous, explorative and organic processes. Yoga and other Indian knowledge systems are gaining popularity worldwide. It is fascinating to see people from around the world quote insights from this heritage. For my grandparents and parents, the authority of the traditional texts was unquestioned, and they held them in high esteem and approached them reverentially. The current generation, however, has developed a greater understanding and appreciation of the practicality of this knowledge for living a balanced life in the modern world. 10 Growing up, I paid little attention to the traditional customs or rituals, although I did wonder about the philosophical teachings of the ancient texts. I found Swami Vivekananda's call to the youth motivating. He had walked all over this sacred land, inspiring millions of Indians to greater self-pride and self-reliance. His life and teachings are a glimpse into India's struggle to get over the hardships caused by invasions, colonisation and cultural decline. His instructions are relevant today as we rediscover our cultural roots, decolonise our collective psyche, and find an evolutionary path. Later in my life, when I started meditation, different concepts became easier to grasp, and clarity emerged.
