About the Author

Hara Prasad Shastri (1853-1931) was a distinguished Indian academic, Sanskrit scholar, and historian renowned for discovering the Chary pada, the earliest Bengali literary works. Educated at Calcutta's Sanskrit and Presidency Colleges, he earned acclaim for his MA degree and prestigious title of Shastri. Shastri held esteemed positions at Sanskrit College, Presidency College, and Dhaka University, contributing significantly to the Asiatic Society. His legacy is marked by ground-breaking research, including the cataloguing of manuscripts in Nepal and seminal works on Bengali literature and Buddhism.
