Book Description
Preface

On the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, it is gratifying to acknowledge that the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, has selected the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda as the Venue for SRI AUROBINDO MEMORIAL LECTURES.

This lecture series aims at promoting interest in Sri Aurobindonian Studies and encourages teaching and researches in Indian Philosophy as well. Its special concern is to deal with the relevance of Indian Philosophy to our times and to its critical interpretation and exposition in the context of modern scientific knowledge.

It may be worth noting that the City of Baroda in General and the M.S. University of Baroda in particular, possess a special significance in the life and activities of Sri Aurobindo. It was at the invitation of late Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad in England, Sri Aurobindo decided to come to India in 1993 and joined the Services of the Baroda State and later the then Baroda College. The City of Baroda proved for him as a stage for all his nationalistic activities and spiritualistic groomings later on.

In view of this the M.S. University of Baroda and its Department of Philosophy Collaborated the University Grants Commission in organizing Sri Aurobindo Memorial Lectures of 1997, for which Dr. (Ms.) Prema Nandakumar; an eminent scholar on Sri Aurobindo and a Visiting Professor, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala was invited to deliver three lectures on (1) Sri Aurobindo and the Spirit of India (2) Sri Aurobindo and World Unity and (3) Sri Aurobindo's Savitri. It is a matter of pride and pleasure for the University to have collaborated with and organized these lectures and is also pleased to now publish these lectures with the financial assistance of the University Grants Commission.
