When the great Siddha Sri Svatnatrandanatha was ordered by Lord Siva to correlate Matrkas (Sanskrit alphabet) with Yoga marga, he started doing so on the basis of Mahesvara sutras. Having failed to do so, he went into a cave of hill top called Kankacala and started his penance, as a result of which a Sri Yantra incarnated from the sky, and Siddha was able to understand this secret. The Siddha seer found that Matrikas are classified into four states called Jagrata or Awaken state; Svapna or Dream state; Susupti or Deep sleep state; and Turiya or Fourth state, and above all is the Turiyatita state, which is the house of all. He explored that they are all related to each other in a way that they reveal the secret of evolution and liberation of living beings and the secrets of Lord Siva and Sri Lalita Tripurasundari. He explained all this with the help of Sutras.
Being divided into five chapters, the first four chapters of this book keep saying that Lord Siva's power is frigid in nature; however, as he writes the fifth chapter, he reveals a secret which is no less than a great suspense of this entire work.
With great command of the subject, the great seer had compiled the entire mystic relation of Sri Lalita Tripura Sundari, Sri Yantra, Matrka, Lord Siva, Sakti, living being, four states with the fifth one, prameya, pramana and pramata, and this world in such a beautiful manner that it looks more like a Tantrika symphony than a Tantrika book.
The commentary of this work is lucid and is unique in nature because this commentary is without any excerpt from other books and is only based on the experiences of Yogis, which is called darsana and not philosophy. Being translated into English along with various diagrams and tables, this Kasmiri Mantra Sastra is rare and the only work of its type and is a must-read for those who want to know how mantras work.
