But the word Gana refers to both the common man as well as the Ganas or the hobgoblin disciples of Lord Shiva. Ganapati also refers to the same thing, the master of the Ganas. He is also called Vighna Vinashaka or Vighnaharta. Vighna means obstacles. Vinashaka means destroyer and Harta means the one who steals away.
