PREFACE

Svasti Sri is the result of an abiding desire on the part of Dr. Chhabra's friends and admirers to give a meaningful expression to their unbounded appreciation of the man and the scholar in Dr. Chhabra. The title of the volume is itself the result of the editors' desire that it should truly reflect all the goodness and benevolence which Dr. Chhabra has showered upon fellow human beings who had come in contact with him in his official as well as social life.

Dr. Chhabra's deep and erudite scholarship and the readiness with which he has always helped friends and students in their academic pursuits have earned for him international repute while his goodness and generosity are remembered vividly by his beneficiaries even years after they had lost personal contacts with him. The editors fondly hope that their twin desire of honouring the great man that Dr. Chhabra is and of enriching the field of academic studies with a volume of learned articles contributed by scholars of erudition both from India and abroad is fairly well met by the publication of Svasti Sri. They join Dr. Chhabra's innumerable well-wishers in praying the Almighty to bestow upon him a long and prosperous life.

The editors take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the learned contributors of articles and also those who, not finding time to prepare their papers, thoughtfully sent in their best wishes. They remember with gratitude all the staff of Agam Kala Prakashan and the printers, Print India for their unstinted co-operation in seeing this volume through.
