Book Description

Preface

We are delighted to present the first volume of our textbook, Roga Nidan and Vikriti Vigyan, meticulously covering all the topics prescribed by the new syllabus from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). This book is the culmination of extensive research, years of clinical practice, and a deep commitment to advancing the field of Ayurvedic medicine.

The study of Roga Nidan (disease diagnosis) and Vikriti Vigyan (pathology) forms the cornerstone of effective medical practice, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical application. As the field evolves, there is an ever-growing need for resources that not only encompass traditional wisdom but also integrate contemporary scientific insights. This textbook is designed to meet that need, offering a comprehensive, updated, and insightful exploration of these critical subjects.

In this volume, we have endeavored to present the material in a clear and structured manner, making it accessible to students, practitioners, and educators alike. Each chapter has been thoughtfully crafted to ensure a thorough understanding of concepts, diagnostic methods, and pathological processes. Detailed explanations, illustrative case studies, and practical examples are included to enrich the learning experience and foster a deeper comprehension of complex topics.

The chapters are organized to reflect a logical progression from fundamental principles to more advanced topics, facilitating a step-by-step learning approach. We have also incorporated the latest findings and guidelines to align with the current standards and expectations of the NCISM syllabus. This book is specifically designed for BAMS II Professional students, providing them with a robust foundation in Roga Nidan and Vikriti Vigyan, crucial for their academic and professional development.

We have designed the book accordingly to ensure that students achieve the following competencies, structured around Bloom's taxonomy:

1. Knowledge: Identify the morbidities in accordance with principles of Ayurveda pathology (vikriti vigyan siddhanta) - PO1

2. Comprehension: Describe the basic, general, and systemic pathological processes, thereby applying them in reaching a diagnosis - PO2, PO3

3. Application: Perform appropriate clinical examination (pareeksha) utilizing Ayurveda and contemporary principles (samakalina siddhanta) - PO2, PO3, PO4

4. Analysis: Order and interpret various diagnostic laboratory investigations and imaging - PO2, PОЗ

5. Synthesis: Diagnose and present the case with clinical reasoning (naidanika tarka) - PO5

6. Evaluation: Follow and advise advancements in diagnosis (vyadhi vinischaya) and prognosis (sadhya asadhyata) in clinical practice (naidanika adhyayana) -PO7

7. Communication: Communicate effectively with the patient (rugna), relatives (bandhujan), and other stakeholders (naidanika adhyayana) - PO8

8. Ethics and Professionalism: Demonstrate ethics (sadvritta), compassion (karu-na), and possess qualities of a clinician (vaidya guna) - PO6, PO9

We are grateful for the support and encouragement from our colleagues, students, and peers, whose feedback has been invaluable in shaping this book. Our sincere thanks go to the NCISM for their guidance and for setting a robust framework that drives excellence in Ayurvedic education.

It is our hope that this textbook will serve as a reliable reference and a source of inspiration for those dedicated to the study and practice of Ayurveda. May it con-tribute to a deeper understanding of Roga Nidan and Vikriti Vigyan and, ultimately, to the improved health and well-being of the communities we serve.

Foreword

It gives me immense pleasure to write the foreword for the first volume of "Textbook of Roga Nidan and Vikriti Vigyan," authored by Dr. B.K. Sevatkar and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur. This textbook stands as a well-structured and comprehensive resource for BAMS-II professional students, meticulously developed according to the latest NCISM syllabus,

Roga Nidan (diagnostics) and Vikriti Vigyan (pathology) are central pillars of Ayurvedic education, providing the foundational knowledge needed for accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This book offers a detailed and lucid explanation of these subjects, combining classical Ayurvedic principles with modern clinical perspectives. Such integration ensures that students not only grasp theoretical concepts but also develop the practical skills necessary to excel in clinical practice. The authors, Dr. B.K. Sevatkar and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, have drawn upon their vast experience and expertise to present this textbook. Their deep commitment to Ayurvedic education is evident in the way they have simplified complex concepts

without compromising academic rigor. Furthermore, the inclusion of real-world clinical insights makes this book not just a theoretical resource but a practical guide that students can rely on throughout their professional journey.

I believe this textbook will be a valuable tool for all students of Ayurveda, serving as both an academic guide and a clinical reference. It will undoubtedly aid in shaping competent and knowledgeable Ayurvedic professionals, ready to contribute meaningfully to healthcare.
