Sri L. Swaminathan has spent his time remarkably and usefully for himself and also for public good. After 35 years of service as technologist, he has intensively studied and researched on the ancient works. Particularly in the last 20 years, he has devoted substantial time in studying and analyzing Valmiki Ramayanam. Valmiki Ramayanam is truly a RATNAKARA and depending on one's own capacity to go to greath depth, one can find the precious Ratna (gems). By his work on Valmiki Ramayanam, Sri Swaminathan has carried lot of gems to the common man as well.
Sri Swaminathan has rendered translation of the entirety of Valmiki Ramayanam, stanza by stanza, in English in 8 volumes. I would particularly mention his book on Valmiki Ramayanam - A Revelation (single volume 600 pages) and Valmiki Ramayanam A Treasure (in 3 volumes 1850 pages). He has now authored this book with the title Valmiki Ramayanam An Anthology. For the benefit of those desiring to have glimpses at brief periods, this book is a very useful one.
The author has proposed to render "NAAMAAVALI" from Valmiki, 100 pages with Chants in Sanskrit and translation thereof as an auspicious culmination of his writings on Ramayanam.
It is difficult to choose important verses from Valmiki Ramayanam as I consider every verse and every line therein, each as a precious gem! The author has picked up stanzas thoughtfully and has given interesting readings on them, like Citizens make country King and Administration known by his ministers Law and Justice ORA Caste Casteism (Under this heading he has appropriately chosen a stanza to the effect that men of all castes should be treated to great hospitality and must receive due honours)
Patience and Forbearance
Mother - Unique
Son is mother's boy, ever, sinner though he may be
Friendship
Relatives
Taxes
National monuments
Never turn wrath on society
Administration
I have only illustratively mentioned some. The headings have been carefully chosen.
He has done commendable service to the community by his writing several books on Valmiki Ramayanam. This book -An Anthology is a precious and holy gem that should find a place in every household, especially, Hindus.
