Sreekrishnapuram V.T. Bhattathiripad College has approved the UGC STRIDE Component I project on the topic Vedic Education System in Kerala - A Comprehensive, Scientific, Interdisciplinary Analysis for the period 2020 February to 2023 February. The project's investigators organised two online academic events as part of their academic activities: an international conference on Ancient Indian Astronomy and Mathematics with Special Reference to Kerala on August 26-28, 2021, and a National webinar on June 25-26, 2021, on the topic Vedic Literature and Education System: A Historical Analysis. Both the programmes were highly informative with the presentations of internationally reputed scholars with significant academic excellence. The selected conference papers are going to be published with the coordinators' considerable and serious effort.
This book includes research papers on the Indian system of education which has a long history. Ancient Indian education was a multiphase strategy at its micro to the macro level. The different systems of education in India incorporated the oral tradition. Among them, the Vedic education system highly promotes the oral tradition; hence, the Vedas are known as Śruti. The Vedic education system has influenced the major systems of education in India to a great extent. A research-oriented analysis and study based on the Vedic education systems of India more than that of Kerala has not yet been done by scholars. The Vedic education incorporates the settlements of Brahmans in Kerala. Mathematics and Astronomy in Kerala has a vital strength in its literary resources.
This book includes 14 research papers. The first part deals with the history of the Vedic education system in Kerala. The gurukula system of education was the key point or basic strength of the oral tradition and the various systems of education. The prestigious intervention of 18 sabhāmathas and salas like Kantaļļur, Parthivapuram, and so on are some mile-stones in the education hubs and policies of Kerala. The unrevealed history of the oral tradition must be put forth from the backdrops to the mainstream.
The second part deals with the profound and tremendous tradition of Mathematics and Astronomy in Kerala. The rich past in the mathematical history of Kerala has not been studied much by scholars. The articles are serious perceptions or discourses to the knowledge hubs like Talakkulathu Govindan Bhaţţatiri, Putumana Somayāji, Vațasseri Paramesvaran and Sankaranarayaņan. The oral tradition in the Vedic education system has influenced scientific treatises like gaņitam, jyotişam, ayurvedam, and so on.
