Religion has been an integral part of human civilization from times immemorial. Along with religion, denial of the existence of god and apostasy have also been part of human societies. While major religions of the world like Hinduism or Christianity accept apostasy, Islam has a rigid view of apostasy. Several Hadis are available to establish that Islam strongly disapproves of either denial of god and renouncing or change of religion. Since Islam tightly integrates religion, society, state and law into one indivisible package, apostasy is also dealt with severely in Islam. In Islamic society, as soon as anyone announces that he or she is apostate, family ties are severed immediately, and social boycott imposed on such persons.
However, the rise of internet and rapid growth of social media platforms have given the freedom, albeit with a few restrictions, for several Muslims to publicly renounce their allegiance to Islam. In particular, first-and second-generation Muslim migrants from Pakistan and India to Europe or America have taken the lead in announcing their apostasy. This trend has picked up momentum in India also and several Muslims have come onto social media platforms and announced that they have left Islam. While some of them have revealed their identity, others have narrated their stories concealing their identity. Most of them have set up You Tube channels where they narrate the reasons for leaving Islam.
Some of them conduct live shows two- three times a week where they discuss various issues relating to Islam, issues concerning ex-Muslims, and also host interviews with new ex-Muslims.
This compilation consists of the interviews given by women who have left Islam for various reasons. All the data is taken from published interviews which are on Youtube, some of them by reputed News channels. While most were born Muslims, few were born in Hindu families but became Muslims for various reasons and then atalaterdate, renounced Islam. It also contains testimonies of three Muslim women who have left Islam and then converted into Sanatana Dharma. We hope this compilation will make an interesting reading while giving an insight into the growing phenomena of apostasy in Islam.
