With the holy river Ganga in his hair, and the third eye (capable of seeing the future) in the center of his forehead, Shiva sits wearing a tiger-skin loin cloth. His jewelry consists of a cobra coiling around his neck like a necklace, raising its hood at his left shoulder. Another serpent serves as a band holding together his high piled hair. According to the Linga Purana, in this capacity, Shiva is known as Naga-bhushana (One adorned with snakes).

His hair further supports the crescent moon, and he also wears necklaces and bracelets made of the sacred rudraksha beads. His two-faced drum (damaru) hangs down from the middle prong of his trident, and his kamandalu (holy water container) lies in the foreground. Shiva's right hand is raised in the abhaya mudra, and the left, counting the rosary, rests on the corresponding knee.
