Radha-Krishna, the ever-divine and favorite duo in Hinduism represent the zenith of eternal togetherness in the art and literature of India. Innumerable paintings of the couple enjoying each other’s company have been created by the many schools of Indian painting, among which the Rajput artworks stand apart, due to their idealization of Radha-Krishna as the ultimate pair the nectar of whose love fills the canvas of this handmade Radha Krishna wall hanging, celebrating the “Hindola Lila”- Hindola (swing) Lila (divine play), a popular theme in the paintings of Radha-Krishna, which presents them romantically seated on a swing, amidst lush greenery, their love blossoming in the forests of Vrindavana.

The hand-painted wall hanging is framed by a network of foliage drawn simply on the cream-colored wood. Deep and rich greenery pervades the canvas, forming a fitting backdrop for youthful lovers. An exquisitely made golden swing is placed in the center of the painting, on which Radha-Krishna dressed in an opulent orange is enthroned. Their facial features- elongated eyes, round faces, sharp noses, and smiling lips as well as their luxuriant attires resonate with the idiom of traditional Rajput art. Krishna wears an elaborately decorated Pagdi (headgear) highlighted by the soft green aura around his face, which is gazing at the moon-like countenance of his beloved who with her raised hand appears to be interesting Kanha in a conversation. Pairs of peacocks, the bird that symbolizes beauty, love, and bliss are peeking from the bustling trees behind, embodying the universally alluring romance of Radha Krishna.
