Radha Krishna love tales usually centre around the forests of Vrindavan and the river Yamuna, but here we see the background of architecture as the setting for the love drama. Krishna tries to please his lady love by caressing and washing her feet. As Radha sits on a couch, looking a tad uncomfortable with the ordeal, Krishna, seated on the ground is enjoying his activity. Radha, dressed in red and green, bends her head shyly; Krishna in lilac jama and pink turban looks royal. By his action, he makes Radha understand how special she is to him. A sakhi passes by in the background, but the couple is unaffected by her presence. She is inconsequential to the theme, yet present.
The artist has juxtaposed the straight lines and sharp angles of the walls and balconies with the curves and delicacy of the human figures. He has also wisely juxtaposed the traditional red and green of Radha's garments with the lilac and pink contemporary colours. The blue sky in the background is divided from the ochre foreground by the small balcony wall.
