Dressed in gold and standing while blessing the hearts of his devotees, Lord Parthasarthy stands gracious and kind-hearted. Sarathi means a charioteer and Partha is a name for Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers. During the war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas, Shri Krishna became a charioteer for Arjuna, earning the name Parthasarthy. Arjuna was one of the Pandava brothers and the greatest archer of all time. He also offered counsel to him when Arjuna was feeling lost. While the Pandavas were blessed with many weapons and ready to walk the path of Dharma, there were still a few hiccups during the war.
As it was a battle between those of kin, Arjuna felt conflicted. He did not wish to kill his relatives and took his dilemma to Lord Krishna. What he needed was someone who could help him and boost his morale. He told him that it was his duty as a warrior to uphold Dharma and do what was the right course of action to bring order back into the world, even if it was a path of death. Shri Krishna, right in the middle of the battlefield, offered him a sermon that would come to take the form of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita.
