This image of Buddha, expressing serene quiescence, is the expression of divine beauty. The half closed eyes show Buddha engrossed in quiet contemplation. He is represented with the cranial bump concealed under the knotted hair. The pointed head is a mahapurusha lakshana (signs of a divine being) of which there are thirty two major and eighty minor ones. The Buddha's earlobes are pendulous and decorated with Kundalas. He wears a monastic robe covering both the shoulders. The head of the Buddha is enriched by the radiant sphere of a nimbus giving him a divine status. The thick lips and a rounded chin are features relating it to the images belonging to Mathura school.
The dullness that would have creeped in due to the mauve and purple is countered by the orange and rust on the left side of the picture. The Buddha's face is tranquil and the colour adds to it by their somber hues.
