Radha-Krishna In Their Togetherness

Radha-Krishna In Their Togetherness

$180
A mandala of dancing Radha-Krishna figures. The amorous couple of Vrindavan has stood the test of time - their love is timeless, the passion between them the stuff of undying myth. The work of art that you see on this page is a repetitive depiction of their togetherness. It is a densely packed Madhubani number, the folk art of Bihar’s Mithila region. The luxuriance of the figures and motifs that make up this composition is proof of the painter’s skill and attention to detail.

Within the circular bounds of the central panel, Lord Krishna is making an offering of His flute to His beloved Radha. They look into each other’s eyes with sheer adoration, the depth of familiarity swimming in them. The larger circular panel that surrounds the same depicts the couple dancing with each other. A ringlet of lotus petals along the outer circumference, flanked by fruit- and leaf-laden vines. The same are highly characteristic of the woods of Vrindavan, where the lives of Radha-Krishna is said to have played out.
