The son of Raga Bhairava, Raga Lalita who is presented in this aesthetically rich watercolor painting is a musical melody that embodies the pangs of separation from the beloved. The young man stands on the side of a lake, caressing a pair of cranes- birds that represent lifelong love in Indian aesthetic culture. Lalita wears a beautiful pink Jama, decorated with floral motifs, Pagdi, and a yellow cummerbund.

Providing little respite to the young man in pain, a mango tree with a fragrant creeper wrapped around it stands on the right half of the canvas. Mango trees and floral vines in the art are symbolic of the lover and the beloved, whose presence in this painting deepens our sensitivity towards the aching heart of Raga Lalita,  who longs for his beloved, surrounded by reminders of love.
