This magnificent Tanjore painting is full of bliss in the way Lord Shiva and His eternal consort Goddess Parvati have been portrayed. The Lord is Param Vaishnav and the predominating deity of Tamo Guna (mode of ignorance), thus responsible for the destruction of the material world. Goddess Parvati is always engaged in the loving service of Lord Shiva and just like heat cannot be separated from the fire, likewise, Lord Shiva cannot be separated from Parvati who is his internal potency.

Lord Shiva is seated in lalitasana on his divine mount Nandi (the sacred bull) who is decorated with a cloth on his back and chains of rings around his neck. The lord is unprecedently clad in a perfectly pleated dhoti and in place of a serpent, his neck is adorned with heavy neckpieces. From the huge crown on his head that holds upon it a crescent moon, thin threads of his matted hair come out. Next to him, attired in a beautiful saree, Goddess Parvati is seated calmly folding her legs. Her body complexion is green that resembles the fresh leaves that spring during the autumn season. They are surrounded by a huge Kirtimukham Prabhavali at the back which is pleasing to the eyes. Four Shiv Bhakts standing on the ground, devotedly fan the lord and the goddess with a chamar and offer them fruits and flowers. Every bit of this painting has been precisely embellished with pure gold coating studded with sequences of shining stones along the outlines which is the characteristic feature of Tanjore artwork.
